Year 8
These materials were intended to support teachers in addressing the needs of those Year 8 pupils who entered Key Stage 3 having achieved the old national curriculum level 3 (or a low level 4) in the Key Stage 2 National Curriculum tests in mathematics. It was expected that the pupils were likely to have followed the Year 7 intervention programme and have attained or be close to attaining level 4 in mathematics. With good teaching and targeted support many could attain level 5 in mathematics by the end of Key Stage 3.
In the current curriculum, these materials may be appropriate for supporting some students in Year 7 and those students in year 8 who are performing in line with Y6 expected standards.
Year 8 Intervention Lessons and Resources
These 10 lessons are designed to support teachers working with Year 8 pupils who need to secure level 5 at the end of Year 9. They are not appropriate for those pupils in Year 8 who are working on the main Year 8 teaching programme. When using the lessons, teachers need to take into account pupils prior knowledge and experience of the topics. Most of the lessons are drawn from existing Key Stage 3 Strategy materials that support the main Year 7 mathematics teaching programme. The following lesson plans and resources are in the pack:
