If you can't logon to the device for the first time (at home setting up the device)
Your new device uses some new technology to allow you to logon to it for the very first time without having to be directly connected to the corporate network, however some home internet service providers block this method which will mean you may get the error below when trying to logon for the very first time to your new device.
ISPs confirmed to not allow this new method of very first logon are
- Some users of PlusNet, although not all are affected.
- Vodafone
To work around the issue, follow these instructions.
- You will need to have available another method of internet connection or be able to go to a location where one is available.
- Tethering your device to a mobile phone's internet connection is a good solution here, as the data usage required for the first logon is very low
- All LCC library locations have public Wi-Fi that supports the first logon process
- All LCC/WLBC office, touchdown and drop-in locations that have Wi-Fi available support the first logon process
- From the logon screen, click on the Wi-Fi icon in the bottom right corner.
- Connect to the alternative Wi-Fi network you have available, see details above for connecting to GovRoam Wi-Fi connection which is available at all office locations.
- Ensure your phone has its personal hotspot enabled if using this method.
- Once you are connected to the alternative network
- Wait a couple of minutes to allow your laptop to connect fully
- Attempt to logon to the device again with your standard username and password.
When your applications will be installed
Once the setup process has completed, all automatically deployed software will be installed. Depending on the applications, additional reboots may be required.
Any applications that were previously installed from the Software Centre can be reinstalled in the same way. Please note, it may take up to an hour for the Software Centre to appear before it can be used.
Please see KB0025504 for more details on how to access and use the Software Centre.
