Book van and trailer waste centre appointments

Vans, hire vans and trailers (all types) must have a booking to visit a recycling centre.

You can:

  • Only bring household waste (generated by you in your own home)

  • Make a booking once in the calendar month

  • Book up to 1 day in advance

  • Only attend the recycling centre you have made a booking to visit

Vans

If you are unsure if your vehicle is a van, please take a look at your V5C document.

If you’re using a hire van, you must bring a copy of the hire agreement with you. If you don’t, you may be refused entry to the recycling centre.

Vans borrowed from a family member, friend or work are not classed as hire vans. In these cases, you must provide the vehicle’s registration number.

Vans include, but should not be considered limited to:

  • Any vehicle for which the body type description on its V5C document contains the term van

  • Light goods vehicles (except standard domestic pick-up trucks) must not exceed a gross weight of 3.5 tonnes.

  • Car-derived vans

  • Camper vans and motor homes

  • A coach, bus, minibus or any vehicle with 9 or more passenger seats

  • Ambulances, livestock carriers and horse boxes

  • Any vehicle modified to carry more waste than it was originally designed for. This does not apply to vehicles adapted for wheelchair access or similar needs.

Trailers

Your trailer must display the same number plate as the vehicle you are towing it with. A booking is for a van or a trailer - not both.

Hire vans

If you are using a hire van, you must bring a copy of your hire agreement and a valid photo ID (such as a driving licence showing your address for cross-referencing with the hire agreement). Access will be refused if these documents are not provided. Please note that vans borrowed from a family member, friend, or workplace are not considered hire vans; for these vehicles, you will need to provide the vehicle registration number instead.

Change a vehicle on a booking

Your vehicle registration number cannot be changed on your booking. If you need to use a different vehicle, please cancel your booking, and rearrange.

Delays in accessing our recycling centres

While we are carrying out operations, no vehicles can be on site. During this time, site staff may ask you to wait a short while before entering. Your booking is still valid, so please be patient with our site staff.

Other vehicle types

Any vehicle used must adhere to our access policy.

Bicycles (push bike) can use a Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC) without a booking.

Bicycles (push bike) towing a trailer (if your waste can be transported safely) must make a booking to visit. Please select 'Yes' to the hire vehicle question and note that you will be asked to provide your postcode upon arrival.

Camper vans must make a booking to visit. If you are unsure if your vehicle is a camper van, refer to your V5C document.

If you are unsure if your vehicle is a motor home, refer to your V5C document.

You can visit a Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC) on a motorbike or scooter (not mobility scooters) if your waste can be transported safely.

Pedestrians are not allowed to enter our recycling centres. This includes parking outside and walking in.

Standard domestic pick-up trucks can use a recycling centre without booking. A standard domestic pick-up is mainly used for personal purposes and hasn’t been modified to carry more. It must have:

  • a double cab

  • 4 doors

  • 2 rows of seats

All other pick-ups must book an appointment. If you’re not sure whether your vehicle is a pick-up, check your V5C registration document.

We'll always be polite and show respect to you
