Music and drama set loans

We have a large collection of music and drama material for choirs, orchestras and drama societies. You can borrow these on special loan. If we do not have the item you need, we may be able to get it from another library service.

A selection of our music and drama stock is available to browse at Lostock Hall Library. Anyone can look at the collections. To borrow items, you must be a member of a music or drama group registered with us.

Register your group or society

To sign up your group, you must choose one person to be responsible for all materials borrowed. They must complete this online form. We will send all communication to this person.

If your society details change, you will need to use this online form to update your information.

Request a set

You can use the this online form to request a vocal, orchestral, drama or libretto set.

You will need your group membership card number. Give at least four weeks’ notice so we can find the item you need.

If you are requesting music, let us know if you need a specific arrangement, edition, translation or language.

We’ll do our best to get the items you request. We’ll check our own stock as well as other UK library services. We can’t guarantee that every item will be available.

Some sets can only be hired directly from publishers. Because of the high cost charged by hiring agents, we cannot borrow these items for you. You must contact the hiring agent yourself.

Cost

All initial loan periods are six months. You can request a further three-month renewal, depending on availability.

Drama set loan

  • £13

  • One one‑act play set loan: £4

  • Three one‑act play sets loan: £10 (this offer only applies to one‑act play sets currently in stock)

Vocal scores loan

  • £38.50 for a set of 40 copies

  • £2.15 per additional copy (up to 17 extra copies). After this, the cost of an extra full set applies.

Shorter vocal scores loan

  • £13 for up to 40 shorter vocal scores of the same title.

  • Further copies are charged at the same rate per 40 or part of.

Orchestral set loan

  • £50 for pieces over 40 minutes
    £38.50 for pieces between 20 and 40 minutes
    £23.50 for pieces under 20 minutes

Drama set renewal

  • £6.50

Vocal scores renewal

  • £19.25 per set of 40 copies

Shorter vocal scores renewal

  • £6.50

Orchestral set renewal

  • £25.50 for pieces over 40 minutes

  • £19.25 for pieces between 20 and 40 minutes

  • £11.75 for pieces under 20 minutes

Cancelled requests

If you cancel your request and it is supplied by another library authority, you will need to pay the cost that the authority has charged us. The standard loan fee from the Music and Drama Service will not apply.

Please do not damage copies by marking with ink, highlighter, sticky tape, paper clips etc. You can read our full care of sets for more details. If material is lost or damaged we will ask the group to pay for a replacement.
