Inter-library loans

If you need a book that is not available in the Lancashire Library catalogue, we may be able to get it for you.

We will either:

  • consider purchasing a copy for our collection

  • borrow it from another library authority (inter‑library loan)

Inter-library loan charges

There is a £5 non‑refundable charge for items obtained from another library authority. This charge still applies if the item is not collected.

If the item is already in our collection, the standard 90p reservation charge applies.

British Library requests may incur an £18.85 charge. We will contact you before processing these requests.

We may be able to supply journal articles. A charge may apply.

Inter-library loans

We use a national inter‑library loan system designed to speed up requests. Use the request an item form to ask for items not available in our catalogue.

The form will ask if you are willing to pay any charges. There are two cost options. If you are not willing to pay, do not submit a request.

Exemptions apply only to the standard 90p reservation charge. There are no exemptions for the £5 inter‑library loan charge.

First‑time users

The first time you use the system, you’ll need to create an account.

  1. Open the request an item form.

  2. When you see the sign in screen, select Create an account.

  3. Enter your name, library card number and email address.

  4. Create a password following the instructions.

  5. Submit the form. You will return to the sign in page.

  6. Sign in using your new details.

The form has two tabs:

  • Journal articles (default)

  • Books — use this tab for all book requests.

Important information

  • Only use the request form for items not available in the Lancashire Library catalogue.

  • Always sign out after each use.

  • We do our best to get all requested items, but we cannot guarantee supply.

  • We cannot borrow audio‑visual items such as DVDs or CDs, except some spoken‑word items for visually impaired customers.

  • British Library loans may incur an £18.85 charge.

  • Journal article requests may also incur a charge.
