NewsBank contains articles from UK and world newspapers published in the last 5 to 25 years, depending on the title. You can also read yesterday’s edition.

It includes all major national newspapers, along with many local and regional titles. Some collections, such as The Times, Sunday Times and Daily Mail, include full image versions.

British Newspaper Archive

The British Newspaper Archive gives access to British Library newspapers from the early 1600s to the late 1900s. Many titles are small regional papers.

How to access the British Newspaper Archive

  • register on a computer or your own device using LancsPublic Wi‑Fi in a library or at Lancashire Archives

  • create a username and password on your first visit

  • log in every time you use the service

Home access is limited. At home, you can search and see results only. To view or print articles, you must use the service in a library or Lancashire Archives.

Red Rose Collections

Red Rose Collections includes a newspaper index for Lancashire newspapers from the 19th century onwards. These articles are held on microfilm and in cuttings files at libraries across Lancashire.

Digitising the index is ongoing, so the online version is not complete.

No login is needed to use Red Rose Collections.
