Remote attendance at inquests

Remote attendance at inquests is a relatively recent development.

We have six courts located throughout Lancashire and only some of which have the capability to provide remote attendance. Inquest are listed 3-8 months in advance and cannot be located to a different court at short notice. In some cases, the screens in court need to utilised to display evidence which can make use of video link difficult. Consequently, it may not be possible to accommodate remote attendance.

Applying for remote attendance

No-one has the right to observe a hearing remotely. Individuals are entitled to apply for permission, but applications will be considered on a case-by-case basis and may be refused. We will try and accommodate your request for remote attendance wherever the coroner considers it is appropriate to do so.

Please email your request to coroners@lancashire.gov.uk headed Application for Remote Attendance at least two days before the hearing explaining why you would like to attend remotely.
