Working with you to make our services better
Co-production is about working with people, not doing things to them.
In Adult Social Care, it means working in equal partnership to design, develop, monitor and improve services together. This partnership includes:
individuals who use Adult Social Care services
unpaid carers, families and communities
professionals
Co-production goes further than consultation because it is about sharing power and making decisions working together.
What co-production looks like in practice
When we co-produce well, people with lived experience are involved from the start to the end of a piece of work.
People with lived experience are Individuals who have the knowledge and understanding that you get when you have personally lived through something.
In Adult Social Care, this includes personal experience with social care and support, as well as the experiences of family members, carers and communities.
When we include people with lived experience, we are making sure we have all the experts around the table. They have a unique view on how things work, and it is important their voices are heard.
This helps shape what we do, how we do it, and how we know it is working.
Our co-production charter
The Lancashire Adult Social Care Co-production Charter PDF sets out the principles we are committed to when working with people and what you can expect when you are involved.
Co-production and commissioning
Commissioning is the process of how we plan, develop and secure adult social care support and services.
We believe that a co-production approach helps us work with people with lived experience and professionals to develop new and innovative solutions and improve outcomes for residents.
We are developing how co-production is embedded within our adult social care commissioning activity so that lived experience and professional expertise help shape:
priorities and outcomes
service design and delivery models
how services are reviewed and improved
You can find more information about adult social care commissioning in Lancashire in the Adult Social Care Market Position Statement.
Learn more about co-production (national guidance)
We use the term co-production in adult social care in line with nationally recognised guidance.
Think Local Act Personal (TLAP) is a national partnership that promotes person-centred care and support.
Their work on co-production is widely used across adult social care.
What co-production means | TLAP is a clear explanation of co-production and its core principles
The Ladder of Co-production | TLAP explains the levels of involvement, showing the difference between information, consultation, engagement and full co-production
The Co-production Hub | TLAP contains tools, national learning and practical resources
We are using these national TLAP principles to guide how we think about involvement and co-production in adult social care, including how this develops within our commissioning activity.
