Extra Care housing

Extra care is a type of accommodation for people aged 55 and over who have a care need.

Extra Care housing supports you to keep your independence as you live in your own home.

What is Extra Care housing?

You have your own self-contained apartment (own tenancy) with your own front door.

Care and support is available on site when you need it, helping you to live independently for longer.

All schemes have easy access to local shops, the town centre and community facilities.

What you can expect

A one or two-bedroom apartment with your own kitchen, lounge and bathroom.

Access to a range of facilities and services available within the schemes.
  • Care and support on site

Additional support is personalised to your needs and can change over time, helping you to live independently for as long as possible.

Not a care home

Extra Care housing is not a care home and cannot accommodate individuals with 24-hour care needs.

Thinking about moving?

If your current home is too much to manage or doesn't meet your needs, Extra Care housing could be an option.

It can help you stay as independent as possible with the right care and support when you need it.
