Safeguarding
We all have a right to live our lives free from abuse and neglect. Safeguarding helps to protect adults who may be at risk of harm.
What is safeguarding?
Safeguarding means protecting an adult's right to live in safety, free from abuse and neglect. It is about people and organisations working together to prevent harm and support wellbeing.
Abuse can take many forms, including:
- Physical abuse
- Emotional or psychological abuse
- Financial or material abuse
- Neglect or acts of omission
- Discrimination
- Domestic abuse
Who does it apply to?
Safeguarding is for adults who:
- •Have care and support needs
- •Are experiencing, or are at risk of, abuse or neglect
This includes older people and adults with a learning disability, physical disability or mental health needs.
