Eco Town education walkway
Visitors can discover more about what happens to their recycling and waste at Eco Town, the new resources and waste education destination. Eco Town hosts interactive displays and artwork as part of the learning experience about the journey of their waste.
The new Eco Town Education Walkway at the Farington Waste Recovery Park showcases what happens to our waste with viewing windows where waste processing can be seen in action. Visitors can learn about how it is important to put the right waste in the right place and improve their recycling knowledge.
Eco Town appeals to all ages. Visits are available to schools and anyone living in Lancashire, including education and community groups can book a group tour.
Visitors can enjoy interactive exhibits and hands-on activities that encourage waste reduction and better recycling habits. Knowledgeable tour guides and informative displays offer an engaging experience.
The facility, run by Lancashire Renewables on behalf of the council, will first open its doors to school visits in September 2025.
This educational experience will help unravel myths, as well as share easy tips on how we can all do our bit to reduce, reuse and recycle more. Hear what it is like to work at the waste facility, and take a picture in our selfie corner.
The walkway features a range of features from digital screens that allow you see inside the waste sorting equipment, displays showing how reuse can change lives, and viewing windows across 3 districts which show how different types of waste are treated.
All of these educational features have been specially designed to show key information around waste and recycling in Lancashire, to inform , and create a long-lasting behaviour change.
