Bookings to visit a household waste recycling centre

Vans*, hire vans and trailers (all types) must have a booking to visit a household waste recycling centre.

You can:

  • only bring household waste (generated by you in your own home)
  • make a booking once in the calendar month
  • book up to 1 week in advance
  • only attend the recycling centre you have made a booking to visit.

Vans

If you are unsure if your vehicle is a van, please take a look at your V5C document.

If you are using a hire van you must bring a copy of your hire agreement with you – without this access may be refused. The council does not consider vans borrowed from a family member, friend or work to be 'hire' vans and you will need to provide a VRN number.

*The term van includes (but should not be considered limited to):

  • Any vehicle for which the body type description on its V5C document contains the term van.
  • Light goods vehicles (with the exception of standard domestic pick-ups) to 3.5 tonnes maximum gross weight.
  • Car-derived vans.
  • Camper vans and motor homes.
  • A coach, bus, minibus or any vehicle with 9 or more passenger seats.
  • Ambulances, livestock carriers and horse boxes.
  • Any vehicle modified to increase its carrying capacity (excluding wheelchair accessible or similar vehicles).

Trailers

Your trailer must display the same number plate as the vehicle you are towing it with. A booking is for a van or a trailer - not both.

Booking

To make a booking you must book a slot using our online form before your visit.

We will ask for your:

  • name
  • email address
  • postal address
  • vehicle make, model and registration.

Delays in accessing our household waste recycling centres

While we are carrying out operations, no vehicles can be on site. During this time, site staff may ask you to wait a short while before entering. Your booking is still valid, so please be patient with our site staff.

Other vehicle types

Any vehicle used must adhere to our access policy.

Bicycles (push bike) can use a HWRC without a booking.

Bicycles (push bike) towing a trailer (if your waste can be transported safely) must make a booking to visit. Please select 'Yes' to the hire vehicle question and note that you will be asked to provide your postcode upon arrival.

Camper vans must make a booking to visit.

If you are unsure if your vehicle is a camper van, refer to your V5C document.

Larger vehicles such as motor homes must make a booking to visit.

If you are unsure if your vehicle is a motor home, refer to your V5C document.

You can visit a HWRC on a motorbike or scooter (not mobility scooters) if your waste can be transported safely.

Pedestrians cannot access our HWRCs - this includes parking your vehicles outside the HWRC and walking in.

Standard domestic pickups can use a HWRC without a booking. A standard domestic pickup is one which is used primarily for personal use and has not been modified to have a greater carrying capacity. Any other pickup should make a booking.

If you are unsure if your vehicle is a pickup, refer to your V5C document.
