The Great Lancashire Debate

Your presentation

Your team's presentation should respond to the following:

2024 marks the 50th anniversary of Lancashire County Council. 50 years ago only half of all households in Britain had a car or van, less than half had a telephone, and there were no household computers or internet! Since then, life for people in Lancashire has changed dramatically.

"How do you predict life will be different in another 50 years' time? Tell us about a change which you think should be made today and how it will benefit Lancashire over the next 50 years."

Your team's ideas are important and they might be used to shape future work of the county council. You can find out more about our Lancashire 2050 priorities and get inspiration for your team's presentation on the Lancashire 2050 website.

Your presentation should be a maximum of 5 minutes long. The judging criteria for the competition will be based on both content and communication:

Interesting content

Entrants should consider the structure of their presentation, including but not limited to

  • a strong opening
  • well explained information throughout the presentation
  • presenting interesting or unique viewpoints
  • a clear ending summarising their presentation

Entrants should consider how vocabulary is used so that it is appropriate to the target audience, subject matter, and to the strengths of the entrants.

Effective communication

Entrants should consider the communication between the speaker and the audience. Entrants should consider audibility and clarity of what is said, as well as eye contact and appropriate body language to put their message across.

Entrants can use notes to support them but should not use any visuals such as a PowerPoint, as this competition is focused on the ability to present in public, like our democratic representatives do in the council or in parliament.
