1 day practical for Shared Lives Carers

Aims

This is a bespoke course for Shared Lives Carers. It aims to help them better assist with physical practicalities of people they support in everyday life situations.

Objectives

At the end of the course participants will be able to:

• Outline Legal and service requirements and responsibilities for carers
• Outline Contractor's responsibilities
• Examine dynamic/In the moment, and written risk assessments.
• Demonstrate principles of Safe Moving and Handling techniques with a focus on the following areas:
  
  • Physical support and relevant aids
  • Assisted Walking
  • Going up and down stairs
  • Support in bathrooms.
  • Assisting people in and out of bed
  • What to do when if someone has fallen / controlled falls.
  • Supporting people in and out of cars
• Examine carer personal safety
• Utilise good practice in wheelchair use (general)
