For shared lives officers and shared lives carers within the Adult Disability Provider Service
Aims
To provide participants with the practical skills and underpinning knowledge required to confidently practice safe handling and administration of medication and high quality clear recording.
Objectives
At the end of the course, participants will be able to:-
• Describe why it is necessary to have medication training.
• Outline the importance of privacy, dignity, independence, choice and consent in relation to medication management.
• Discuss the legislation surrounding the administration of medication.
• Describe the main points of the policy on administration of medication.
• Outline how medicines are classified.
• Describes types of medication available and the different administration routes.
• Outline principles of safe practice in the administration of medication.
• Describe safe practice in storage and disposal of medication.
• Explain when it is appropriate to seek advice.
