Winter service operations –salt dogg & gator - WM052
Course Overview:
This course is designed for employees who, during their daily duties are involved with the operating of `Winter Maintenance Equipment` including `Salt Dogg` and `John Deere Gator` during the delivery of Winter Maintenance Services.
Course Aim:
This course has been developed to ensure that LCC employees who are required to use a Salt Dogg or Gator know of what daily safety checks to carry out, how to use the equipment safely and how to report defects to the equipment.
The course also aims to meet the requirements of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999.
Learning Objectives:
In order to achieve the course aim, the following objectives will need to be demonstrated during the course:
- Prepare and Operate Winter Service Vehicles
- Vehicle Checking
- Familiarisation of the Salting System
- Spreader fixed (Removal for offloading)
- Fault Identification
- Loading & Unloading
Learning Outcomes:
- Create a safe working environment and compliance with legislation and Lancashire County Council policies and procedures.
- Understand the Safe operation of Winter Service Equipment and the associated risk factors.
- Correct operation of all `Winter Maintenance` vehicles, equipment and correct selection and use of all necessary Personal Protective Equipment.
- Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of injuries and diseases reportable under RIDDOR and correct use of work equipment covered under, The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER)1998.
- Understand how to reduce the risks of injury to the operator, third parties and damage to equipment.
