Small plant and Tools - PT051
Course Overview
This course is designed for Lancashire County Council employees, who, during their daily duties are required to use small plant & tools, due to the nature of this course group sizes are restricted to a maximum of 6 people.
Course Aim
This course has been developed to ensure that Lancashire County Council employees who are required to use small plant & tools are aware of the legal implications, Lancashire County Council policies and procedures and hazards associated with using small plant & tools.
Learning Objectives
- Provide information on the legal responsibilities Lancashire County Council polices & procedures & risk assessments
- Describe the small items of plant used on a daily basis by LCC employees (petrol breaker, floor saw, compaction plates, hydraulic breaker & pedestrian roller)
Safe use of vehicle Power-wash
- Introduction to vehicle handbook (red book)
Safe operation of vehicle tail lifts
- Operatives will be shown how to carry out daily checks on plant and how to use all equipment safely
- Deliver an awareness of the environment they work in, each operative to carry out a practical assessment on all the items of plant
Learning Outcomes
- Create a safe working environment & compliance with legislation and Lancashire County Council polices /procedure
- Understand the importance of carrying out pre-start checks on all equipment and related hazards when equipment is faulty/defective
- Competency in being able to demonstrate the correct pre-start checks and operate safely in the workplaceReducing risk of injury to operator and third parties and equipment damage prevention
- Learning Methods
A range of teaching and learning methods including presentation and demonstration will be used with a focus on individual and group participation.
