Abrasive wheels - PT031
Course Overview
This course is designed for employees who, during their daily duties are involved with the selection, fitting and use of abrasive wheels and associated equipment.
Course Aim
This course has been developed to ensure that Lancashire County Council employees who are involved with the selection, fitting and use of abrasive wheels are aware of the legal implications, Lancashire County Council policies and procedures and hazards associated with selection fitting and using of abrasive wheels.
Learning Objectives
- Provide information on legal requirements, HSG17 guidance document, risk assessments, Lancashire County Council policies/procedures, PPE
- Explain the checks to carry out before using the saw, different types of blades composite & non composite, types of material that they can be used on, what might cause a blade to shatter, different types of injury and their causes
- Demonstrate the correct position and posture for use, how to fit a blade correctly checks to carry out on equipment before and after use (removal of blade)
Learning Outcomes
- Create a safe working environment & compliance with legislation and Lancashire County Council policies/procedures
- Correct selection and fitting of blade for the material to be cut, wearing correct PPE.
- Learner demonstrating safe use, maintenance, storage of the equipment.
- Reducing risk of injury to the operator and third parties.
Learning Methods
A range of teaching and learning methods including presentation and demonstration will be used with a focus on individual and group participation. This will include a practical element on using all techniques learnt in the classroom environment.
