Overview
This course is for anyone who is required to carry out excavations by mechanical means and covers safe digging practices to avoid damage to underground services.
Aim
Provide information, instruction and guidance on the safe digging practice, good communication and effective use of locating equipment
Objectives
- Have an understanding of the industry, the dangers of working in the industry and their responsibilities to protect underground services
- Have a working knowledge of good communication and hand signaling
- Be able to identify the need for hand digging
- Carryout all activities to LCC risk assessments
- Identify defects/damage and use appropriate reporting procedures

- Develop competency in safe excavation methodologies

- Promote good practice in the workplace
- Understanding the importance in following risk assessments and method statements
Entry Requirements
Must have completed SK011 avoiding underground services
