Manual handling - HS042
Course Overview
This course is designed for Lancashire County Council employees, who, during their daily duties are involved with any activity that requires the use of manual handling activities.
Course Aim
- To introduce the responsibilities of employers and employees under the Manual Handling Regulations.
- To provide delegates with a basic understanding of functional anatomy, cumulative strain and the causes of back pain.
- To provide a step-by-step guide to dynamic manual handling techniques, with practical demonstration and delegate participation.
- To explain and provide practical opportunity for the delegates to practice the dynamic handling technique in relation to: pushing and pulling, team lifting and the management of awkward loads.
- To introduce simple ways of helping musculoskeletal fitness with self-help stretching and strengthening exercises.
Course Pre-requisites
Operatives must be physically fit and be able to participate in practical exercises. (Subject to all current Covid 19 guidance).
Operatives must bring all usual PPE

The learning objectives are to create:

- A reduction of costs and down times associated with poor practice.
- Highly trained workforce
- Compliance with legal requirements.

Duration 4 hrs
Refresher - 5 years subject to Lancashire County Council and individual circumstances
6 -10 x places available
