Course Overview:

This course is designed for employees who, during their daily duties come into contact with Vulnerable Road Users or are called upon to act as a Reversing Assistant.

Course Aim:           

This course is designed to assess and evidence the competency of drivers who may come into contact with Vulnerable Road Users or be called upon to act as a Reversing Assistant. By the end of this session, trainees will be able to describe the characteristics of vulnerable road users and the best and safest ways to deal with them on the road. This course has also been developed to ensure that drivers for L.C.C are aware of the hazards involved with reversing vehicles and the policies and procedures in place within L.C.C.

 

Learning Objectives:

In order to achieve the course aim the following objectives will need to be `demonstrated` and `assessed` during the course:

  • DVSA Highway Code awareness test
  • Identifying Vulnerable Road User Categories
  • Awareness of Current Health and Safety Legislation
  • Awareness of hazards involved in reversing activities
  • Avoiding dangers in reversing operations
  • Roles and responsibilities of driver and reversing assistant
  • Reversing Aids and use of hand signals
  • Practical use of hand signals

 

 

Learning Outcomes:

  • Outline the roles & responsibilities of the Driver and the Reversing Assistant including corporate LCC policies
  • Raise awareness of the necessary communications between the Driver and the Reversing Assistant
  • Inform and demonstrate methods of best practice when carrying out vehicle manoeuvres both in restricted and public areas
  • Raise awareness of the dangers of reversing vehicles and how to avoid them
  • Understand how to reduce the risks of injury to the operator, third parties and damage to equipment.

Learning Methods

A range of teaching and learning methods including presentation, demonstration, will be used with a focus on individual and group participation
