Emergency First aid at Work - OP0007

Who is this course for?

This 1 Day course is for all new and existing Care Assistants in the Older People Services residential homes. Other workers including work experience, casual and agency employees under the control of the County Council. Delegates must be able to kneel on the floor continuously for at least 2 minutes during the training to demonstrate practical competency and achieve certification. If you are unable to do so, please do not enrol on this session, as you will not meet the requirements for full certification and will be asked to return to your workplace.

Aim(s)

Emergency First Aid at Work aims to provide learners with the skills and knowledge to give emergency first aid to someone who is injured or becomes ill while at work. Assessment is based on practical activities covered throughout the day. On successful completion, learners will be issued with a certificate and ID type card which are valid for 3 years.

Objectives

By the end of the course the participant will be able to:

• Describe the role and responsibilities of an emergency first aider
• Assess an incident
• Manage an unresponsive casualty who is breathing normally
• Recognise and assist a casualty who is choking
• Manage a casualty who is wounded and bleeding
• Manage a casualty who is in shock
• Manage a casualty with a minor injury
