Please find the upcoming virtual training courses we have from March-June 2025. The courses are as follows:

 

MAY  2025

 

-2nd May 2025, 14:00-16:30

IOM Information Session: Journey of unaccompained young people (recommended for foster carers and prospective foster carers/supported lodgings host)

 

This session will cover the experiences and background of unaccompanied asylum seeking children (UASC). The session content will focus on how unaccompanied children fit within the global context of migration, how children become unaccompanied, routes and journeys of unaccompanied children, situations in Europe, and mental health and wellbeing of unaccompanied children. This session will be participatory and rely heavily on participant engagement through case studies and discussion, therefore we highly encourage participants to come prepared to have their cameras on during the session.

Understanding the Asylum Process for unaccompained young people.

The course is hosted by the Greater Manchester Immigration Aid Unit and it covers the  asylum process for unaccompanied young people to seek asylum in the UK. This training will also include updates on changes to the legal and immigration law/policies that will impact unaccompained young people and other people with unsettled status.

JUNE 2025

IOM Country Information Session: Kurdish

This session’s content will cover the geography, history, and society amongst the Kurdish community spread across Turkey, Syria, Iraq and Iran. The session will discuss experiences that Kurdish communities may face in different conflicts in the different countries where they live. It will also discuss the experiences Kurds may face in displacement within and outside their countries of origin. Finally, this session will focus on the cultural norms and experiences with services that may be common in the Kurdish community across Turkey, Syria, Iraq and Iran. This session will be participatory and rely heavily on participant engagement through case studies and discussion; therefore we highly encourage participants to come prepared to have their cameras on during the session.

Good practice in caring for migrant children who arrive in the UK (recommended for foster carers and prospective foster carers/supported lodgings host)

 

This will provide existing and prospective carers with the information to start providing care and support to separated migrant children.
