Staying put policy - FC0099

This course is for mainly foster carers, however team managers, supervising social workers and support workers from the fostering service may benefit from attending. 

Please note that the courses will be hosted as a virtual classroom session. Learners enrolling for these sessions will need their own laptop/PC or smart device to log on to the session

Aims

  • To provide an awareness of the process to follow when planning for and establishing a Staying Put arrangement.
  • To provide an awareness of the tasks and timescales associated with transferring from a fostering placement to a Staying Put arrangement.
  • To explain the finance, welfare benefit and tax issues for foster carers and Staying Put carers.
  • To explain the financial and welfare benefit issues for and requirements of young people.
  • To explore practical issues in regard to young people transferring from foster care to Staying Put arrangement, i.e. Placement Plan to a Living Together Agreement and interaction with the Pathway Plan
  • To support Foster Carers in planning the move-on from a Staying Put arrangement.

 

Objectives

At the end of the course participants will be able to:

  • Define the factors that will influence the establishment of a Staying Put arrangement.
  • Be aware of the planning process, tasks and timescales for establishing a Staying Put arrangement.
  • Be aware of the roles, responsibilities and key factors that will influence the decision to transfer a foster care placement to a Staying Put arrangement. ie. Payment rates, welfare benefits, tax and national insurance, fostering registration and support issues.
  • Be aware of the importance of the Living Together Agreement, ensuring the stability of Staying Put arrangements and the move-on planning process.
