This course is for Foster Carers and Adopters
Please note that some courses will be hosted as a virtual classroom session. Learners enrolling for these sessions will need their own laptop/PC or smart device to log on to the session.
Aims
To assist foster carers to fully appreciate the varied background origins of children and young people. To respect and promote each child's and young person's unique personality, social circumstances and cultural backgrounds.
Objectives
At the end of the course participants will be able to:
- State that the needs, rights and views of the child or young person are at the centre of all practice and provision.
- Illustrate how individuality, difference and diversity are valued and celebrated.
- Explore equality of opportunity issues and promote anti-discriminatory practice.
- Reflect on the different types of prejudice and discrimination which can affect children and young people.
- Outline why it is important to provide care which respects and preserves each child’s ethnic, religious, cultural and linguistic background.
- Illustrate how you support and encourage children and young people to develop skills to deal with discrimination, enhance self-worth and make a positive contribution.
