Child development, attachment & promoting resilience - FC0019

This training is mainly for foster carers. However, fostering team managers, supervising social workers, fostering support workers and adopters can apply

Please note that some of the sessions will be hosted as a virtual classroom session. Learners enrolling for these sessions will need their own laptop/PC or smart device to log on to the session.

Aims

To provide Foster Carers with an insight into how children develop and form attachments and how these attachments can impact on them and how Foster Carers can help children and young people build up their resilience to cope. 

Objectives

At the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Outline child development and the developmental needs of children and young people
  • Describe the difference between chronological age and stages of development and how this may affect a child or young person
  • Discuss attachment and stages of development
  • List the basic principles of how children and young people of all ages form attachments, how these attachments affect their development, and the impact of interrupted development, trauma, transition, separation and loss
  • Discuss how Foster Carers can help children and young people develop resilience and self esteem
