Caring for Adolescents with Harmful Sexual Behaviour - FC0130
This one-day course is designed for foster carers with an adolescent child in their care (secondary school age)
N.B. This course does not relate to primary school age children. A separate course is available for pre-pubescent children.
Please note this course does not relate to pre-pubescent children i.e., primary school age. Carers with children at primary school, should apply for "Caring for pre-pubescent children with sexual behaviour problems' training.
Aim(s)
The course aims to support carers to distinguish between age-expected sexual behaviours from those which are harmful or abusive to others and will focus on issues relevant to risk management and therapeutic care.
Objectives
- To enable carers to distinguish between age-expected and harmful sexual behaviour.
- To highlight some of the facts and myths around this area
- To support carers awareness of how and why some young people develop harmful sexual behaviours.
- To identify the key care and therapeutic needs required to reduce risk
- To provide ideas for risk management and safe care and help carers identify when specialist assessment / intervention is required.
- To provide carers with an opportunity to discuss and share their questions, fears and worries.
