First Language Assessments

First Language Assessments can give vital information about a pupil’s previous education and about their first language development. This information will help schools make wise choices about how to place new arrivals and how to support them to ensure that they can make good progress and achieve their full potential. They can also help school recognise more able pupils and identify those with SEN.

Our bilingual staff can carry out a first language assessment in certain languages which will help you to:

  • obtain essential background information about EAL learners
  • find out more about the speaking and listening, literacy and numeracy skills of a pupil educated abroad
  • investigate possible concerns about progress
