The TOOLKIT has been written to support the planning and resourcing of interventions that children and young people may need in order to access teaching, learning and social emotional aspects of learning. It can be used to plan for additional support within class and complement aspects of quality first teaching by practitioners in school. The aim is to enable individuals to overcome barriers to learning, access the curriculum or meet their social, emotional and behavioural needs.

The PIVATS PSED TOOLKIT materials will;

• Complement the PIVATS PSED resource in setting and planning targets and providing the necessary support for the individual.
• Offer a wide variety of suggestions of ways to support individuals in their personal, social and emotional needs which may be required above PHSE teaching in school.
• Offer a convenient, editable TOOLKIT card which could act as a planning overview for an adult to use to support their knowledge and help measure impact.
• Provide time saving resources with some links to other providers that may save professionals in school time.

A number of case studies accompany the TOOLKIT to demonstrate the different ways you may wish to use it. Being designed by practitioners in schools, it has been produced to be used flexibly in a multifunctional way.

But in summary, the TOOLKIT can be used:

• Once the PSED target area has been identified, where applicable, you can hyperlink to the information card and resources that will offer strategies and outline progression in support for that area. Not all targets have links, but many are included. The TOOLKIT ‘information cards’ act as a recipe card (which are editable so they can be personalised for planning for the child) and they can be used to support the planning of interventions and delivery of the use of resources along with possible progression within the area.
• The TOOLKIT ‘cards’ can be used independently by practitioners  (teachers, learning mentors or teaching assistants) as an aide memoire of how to use the particular resource, especially when used within class
• The TOOLKIT ‘resource templates’ can be used and adapted (where possible) for use with any children or groups as appropriate.

The Toolkit, which is available to schools to be downloaded electronically, will hyperlink to the PSED milestones, as applicable, and is available to purchase, at a cost of £55 (plus VAT) for those schools which have already purchased the PIVATS PSED milestones.
