The Lion and Albert - Year 6 Unit (RES115)
£30.00
This unit has been designed to provide Year 6 teachers with both modelled and independent writing opportunities to support writing assessment judgements at the end of Key Stage 2.
Using a quality text, The Lion and Albert by Marriott Edgar, a range of writing opportunities have been carefully planned across four key sections. These outcomes have been selected to target specific statements and skills from both the Lancashire Key Learning Documents for Reading and Writing and the STA Key Stage 2 Teacher Assessment Framework (TAF).
The unit comprises of a total of 27 sessions which are sub-divided into four main sections:
- Immersion into text – 5 sessions
- Narrative: 1st person perspectives through diary entries and short flashback story – 7 sessions
- Communication: Email Letters – 7 sessions
- Persuasion: Adverts and Reviews – 8 sessions
Following the first of these sections 'Immersion into text' (5 sessions), the additional three sections are non-linear i.e. these are stand-alone units of work which can be taught in any order.
Depending on the needs of the cohort / class and time available, teachers should use their discretion as to which of the sections are delivered and in which order.
Opportunities for further stretch have also been referenced throughout the unit to demonstrate where learning could be taken further if, and when, appropriate. The further stretch opportunities link to end of Year 6 expectations and are provided for children who are working towards the Greater Depth Standard.
A reading and writing overview, outlining the key skills and all modelled and independent writing opportunities within each section, has also been provided.
