- Explore a range of opportunities for taking science learning outside.
- Explore how to plan for outdoor learning which embeds the science substantive and disciplinary knowledge.
- Consider how outdoor learning can foster a love of learning and responsible attitudes to the environment.
- Explore links to sustainability, climate action education and the 60 active minutes agenda through using the outdoors in science lessons.
- Be inspired by how one school has developed their outdoor space to promote learning outdoors.

There is a wealth of research which highlights the benefits of learning outdoors. These have been linked to improved health, well-being and engagement to name a few but how can we plan for rich 'memorable' learning linked to the science curriculum across the age phases too?

Explore how to make the most of your outdoor areas to support and enrich the primary science curriculum. During the day teachers will explore how to plan for outdoor learning learning across their school to ensure progression, promote gardening skills and encourage a love of nature and the outdoors in their pupils. From planning what to grow in each year group, deciding when it is appropriate to take learning outdoors to how outdoor learning can benefit our more reluctant learners and writers.

The day will also consider how to use the outdoors to help improve vocabulary, embed learning and support retrieval, practise skills and make links to climate education to help develop responsible attitudes to the environment. Whether you are just getting started with your outdoor learning plans or want to enhance work you are already doing, this course has something for everyone.

As the venue is within the grounds of a primary school, teachers will get the opportunity to explore how one school has developed their outdoor learning curriculum and outdoor spaces over the last few years. Be inspired to see just what is possible! Please bring appropriate footwear and clothing as much of the day will be in the outdoors.

"Thanks Rachael, loved the course last week and I’m excited to deliver this week’s staff meeting in the hope we can get the ball rolling with many of the ideas you shared!" Science Leader, Primary School, Preston, Lancashire.

"What a great opportunity to witness and interact with the children's learning happening in the outdoors. Fabulous to have a whole day in a school outdoor setting. I've got lots of great ideas and starting points. Feeling inspired." Feedback from a delegate.
