This course aims to:
• Review some of the key cognitive science theories – Cognitive Load Theory, Spacing, Dual Coding, Generative Learning, Schema.
• Consider the implications of cognitive science theories in the classroom and how they can lead to strong teaching.
• Discuss strategies and resources to begin implementing the research into everyday classroom practice.
• Review key sources of evidence and research.
Many schools are turning to research to inform teaching and learning and develop 'evidence-informed practice' in the classroom. This course will review some of the key theories underpinning effective learning across the curriculum. Participants will have opportunities to consider how teaching could be adapted considering the research.
During the day, research will be considered from : Ausubel, Bjork, Rosenshine, Sweller.
The course will include a brief twilight catch-up meeting on Teams later in the year for participants to review the impact of implementing strategies.
