This course will:
- provide an overview of Cognitive Load Theory;
- consider the distractions that may affect pupils in lessons; and
- suggest practical strategies to reduce distractions in the classroom.

The layout of classrooms, daily routines and the presentation of new learning in lessons can all cause distractions for pupils, leading to a loss of focus and concentration on the learning. Cognitive Load Theory recommends strategies to optimise intrinsic cognitive load and reduce extraneous cognitive load. This short course will focus on reducing distractions around the classroom and in the way lessons are taught.
