This course is part of a series of courses using evidence-based research to develop, and embed, 'great' teaching and learning strategies in all lessons.
This course will:
• Give practical examples of what explicit teaching and modelling look like in the classroom.
• Review key findings from current research, including Ofsted, Rosenshine and the EEF.
• Explore how explicit teaching can impact positively on learning for all pupils.
• Consider how cognitive strategies e.g. faded examples and alternation can be used effectively across the curriculum.
If you like Oasis then you'll love the song themed success criteria ideas in this course!
The EEF identify 'Explicit Instruction' as one of the five-a-day elements that will have a positive impact on learning, and Barack Rosenshine includes 'provide models' and 'check for student understanding' in his Principles of Instruction.
This course will consider different sources of research to identify the common principles of explicit instruction and delegates will be given examples of how models can be used in lessons. During the course, delegates will have the opportunity to consider their own lessons and apply these strategies to improve teaching and learning.
