THIS COURSE IS LIMITED TO 2 DELEGATES PER SETTING

This course is part of a series of courses using evidence-based research to develop, and embed, 'great' teaching and learning.

• To review key findings from research, including Ofsted, Rosenshine and the EEF.
• To explore how the curriculum, clear learning objectives, success criteria and outcomes support explicit teaching.
• To discuss effective lesson structures, including 'The seven-step model'
• To consider how modelled examples, faded examples and alternation can be used in lessons.

The EEF identify 'Explicit Instruction' as one of the five-a-day elements that will have a positive impact on learning (EEF; 2022; Moving Forward, Making a Difference) and Rosenshine includes 'provide models' and 'check for student understanding' in his Principles of Instruction.

This course will consider different sources of research to identify the common principles of explicit instruction and delegates will be given examples of how models can be used in lessons. During the course, delegates will have the opportunity to consider their own lessons and apply these strategies to improve teaching and learning.
