This course will:
- enhance your understanding and awareness of autism and the areas of difference that affect pupils on the autistic spectrum and those with Pathological Demand Avoidance;
- introduce you to sensory processing differences, often associated with autism and how this impacts every day life in school;
- explore practical strategies to create an inclusive learning environment for all pupils, including those with ASC and PDA behaviours; and
- give you a toolkit of practical classroom strategies to support a child with autistic behaviours.
According to the latest figures from the Department for Education, autistic pupils in England are nearly three times as likely to be suspended from school as pupils with no special educational needs. This course will introduce you to behaviours associated with autism and PDA. You will leave with practical strategies of how to make reasonable adjustments and create an inclusive learning environment to support primary and secondary pupils in the classroom.
