Explore how drama can be used for assessment and retrieval practice and to motivate learners.

We are pleased to present this half day event by David Allen as part of our external speaker program aiming at extending our CPD provision and drawing on expertise from the national primary science community. This afternoon session is running on the same day as our Primary Science Network Meeting so teachers can conveniently book both and enjoy a free lunch in between. The Primary Science Network Meeting needs to be booked separately to allow for more flexibility for schools.

This session draws upon an interdisciplinary approach to teaching science and will explore creative ways to link science and drama in activities that are mutually beneficial to both subjects. The aim being to excite children’s curiosity and allow them to develop their conceptual understanding whilst also improving their speaking and listening skills. The session will also explore how drama can be used for assessment and retrieval practice in primary science.

We will experience how using dramatic conventions in science lessons can encourage children to fully engage, become agents of their own learning, improve their scientific understanding, and develop their science identity. The session will include interactive, practical drama activities.

David Allen worked in primary schools for over twenty years as a teacher, senior leader and Deputy Head teacher.
