This course is part of a series of courses using evidence-based research to develop, and embed, 'great' teaching and learning.

The course will:
• consider what is meant by 'scaffolding' learning and the importance of this in high quality teaching;
• review key messages from research relating to scaffolding learning;
• examine the different scaffolding techniques which can be used within the lesson input, and during independent learning, including clear modelling of learning, use of WAGOLLs, effective use of success criteria and prompts for learning, including effective Working Walls; and
• share a range of practical scaffolding techniques which can be used to develop and support children to be independent learners and, ultimately, to improve outcomes.

In its report "Moving forwards, making a difference - A planning guide for schools 2022-23"", the EEF talk about all children having daily access to scaffolding as part of the 'five a day' approach to high quality teaching. This is also mentioned in the EEF's guidance report on Special Educational Needs in Mainstream Schools where it is one of the five strategies for which there is evidence of positive impact on children's learning.

This course will consider a range of practical strategies for scaffolding learning throughout the lesson eg. through lesson structure, modelling of learning, effective use of success criteria and prompts for learning.

Delegates will leave the course with a range of practical strategies and ideas which can be put into practice straight away
