Teaching Assistants are a valuable support for pupils' learning and are deployed in many different ways - teaching interventions, scaffolding learning in class, supporting individual pupils. This course aims to provide Teaching Assistants with strategies to support learning, however they are deployed.

This course will help Teaching Assistants to focus on pupils' learning rather than completing tasks. Questioning is an essential strategy of formative assessment and participants will practise using strategies that can be used to scaffold and challenge learning in different contexts. Developing pupils' vocabulary is a key element in addressing gaps in learning and improving pupils' outcomes. Participants will examine practical strategies for developing pupils' vocabulary, including academic vocabulary, as well as the importance of modelling Standard English. Resources that support subject knowledge will be reviewed, including resources from the National Curriculum and Lancashire.

This course will run over two sessions and participants will be expected to attend both sessions.
Suitable IT equipment will be necessary, with a working microphone and camera.
