This two day training package meets the EYFS requirement that newly qualified early years staff must have either a full paediatric first aid (PFA) or an emergency PFA certificate before they can be included in the required adult: child ratios in an early years setting and includes:
• Interactive hands on practical training.
• Using First Aid Kits and Record Keeping.
• An easy to follow individual course booklet.
• A recognised Certificate valid for 3 years.
The content of this course covers being able to assess an emergency situation and prioritise what action to take in order to help a baby or child:
• who is unresponsive and breathing normally
• who is unresponsive and not breathing normally
• who is having a seizure
• who is choking
• who is bleeding
• who is suffering from shock caused by severe blood loss (hypovolemic shock)
• who is suffering from anaphylactic shock
• who has had an electric shock
• who has burns or scalds
• who has a suspected fracture
• with head, neck or back injuries
• who is suspected of being poisoned
• with a foreign body in eyes, ears or nose
• with an eye injury
• with a bite or sting
• who is suffering from the effects of extreme heat or cold
• having: a diabetic emergency; an asthma attack; an allergic reaction; meningitis; and/or febrile convulsions
Understanding the role and responsibilities of the paediatric first aider (including appropriate contents of a first aid box and the need for recording accidents and incidents)
The day will include 2 x 15-minute breaks and a 30-minute lunch.
Delegates must arrive on time for this session. A 30-minute grace period is given for a full day session. Adherence to this ensures delivery is in line with the expectations of Advantage Accreditation and of the HSE, EYFS and OFSTED requirements for first aid provision. There are specific learning hours that need to be met to complete the criteria for certification.
