  • Catharine Cummins (Teaching and Learning Consultant - Early Years)

This programme for 2024-2025 will include one full day and four half days of CPD. It will also include a half day consultancy in your setting. The CPD will focus on:

Intent
• Developing a long term EYFS curriculum overview based on the school’s context, pedagogy, approach to reading, ambitions, etc. Delegates will have the opportunity to reflect on ‘what’ their children need and ‘why’ alongside the aims of the EYFS.
Implementation.
• Planning a bespoke EYFS curriculum across all 7 areas of learning – including timetable, a balance between adult led/adult guided and child initiated activities, areas of provision indoors and outdoors, topics and themes, opportunities and experiences including visits/visitors, quality texts to support the teaching of reading and to develop children’s love of reading, events and celebrations, etc.
• Planning for children to develop, consolidate and deepen their knowledge, understanding and skills across all areas of learning throughout the reception year and in response to the needs of each cohort.
• Providing exciting indoor and outdoor environments, with carefully planned areas of provision and purposeful resources and activities to promote learning.
• Providing opportunities for children to demonstrate their attitudes and behaviour for learning through the characteristics of effective learning.

Impact
• Evidencing learning and progress across all areas of learning – manageable systems.
Strategies for monitoring and evaluating the impact of the school’s EYFS curriculum to meet the needs of each cohort.

This course is great value for money and is for the reception teacher and a colleague of their choice for each session. This can be the same or a different colleague each time eg subject leaders, SLT, HT.

" The long term plan and sequences I developed during the course enabled me to confidently talk about what the children were learning and why. Ofsted said they could see a progressive and well planned curriculum. "

"This course was so useful as it gave us time over the year to reflect, learn and share ideas and focus on evidence based learning. It was great to be able to bring another member of staff and we now feel confident in our EYFS offer"
