Supporting EAL pupils for Teaching Assistants: (3-part course). This course is for teaching assistants working with international new arrivals and more advanced EAL learners. It consists of 3 sessions with opportunities to implement ideas in school in between sessions.
TA's will be trained to plan and deliver small group interventions and will learn how to support EAL and new arrivals in the mainstream classroom .
Part A) We will look at the theory behind second language acquisition and language development
Part B) Delivering Small Group Interventions to EAL and Supporting EAL Learners in the Mainstream and assessment using EAL frameworks and how to assess
Part C) Practical Strategies for Developing English Proficiency
It will consider strategies and resources that can be used when working in class and in small group situations such as barrier games, collaborative learning activates, speaking/writing frame sand many others.
