6. Newspapers old and new

PressReader Unlimited Newspapers (external link)

  • Press Reader offers thousands of national, provincial, and global newspapers with 90 days of back issues.
  • Newspapers from over 100 countries in 60 languages can be read in your browser on any device.
  • To access these you will need to login in your web browser using your library card number and PIN. 
  • If you already use the Libby app for eAudio and Magazines, you can also access PressReader via 'Extras' from the app.

NewsBank (external link)

  • Newsbank contains articles published in UK and world newspapers in the last 5 to 25 years (varies with different papers) right up to yesterday's edition.
  • All the major national daily papers and many local and regional ones are included.
  • To access these you will need your library card number.

British Library Newspapers 1730 - 1950 (external link)

  • National, regional and local newspapers from the Eighteenth to Twentieth centuries taken directly from the holdings of the British Library
  • These include the Burnley Express, Lancaster Gazette and Preston Chronicle.
  • To access these you will need your library card number.

Times Digital Archive (external link)

  • The complete digital edition of The Times (London) from 1785 to 2010.
  • Every page of every issue includes headlines, articles, images, editorial, birth and death notices and classifieds.
  • To access these you will need your library card number.

Red Rose Collections (Lancashire County Council)

  • Red Rose Collections includes a Newspaper Index to articles in local Lancashire newspapers from the 19th century onwards which are held on microfilm and in cuttings files at libraries across Lancashire.
  • Note that digitisation of these indexes is still on-going, so this online index is by no means exhaustive. 
  • Red Rose does not require any login to view any of the content.
