Warton Crag is within Arnside and Silverdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and was created from a former limestone quarry. It is a prominent limestone hill with spectacular views over Morecambe Bay. The area is important for its wildflowers, ancient woodland and historical significance. The site is managed as a network of nature reserves and several permissive footpaths lead from the car park to these and the summit of Warton Crag.
Lancashire County Council own and manage the car park and picnic area.
