Household tenure

Summary 

The number of owner occupiers in the Lancashire-14 area was 618,019 in 2011, and home ownership accounted for 69.9% of the tenancies. Blackpool (62.0%) and Preston (61.3%) were the only two Lancashire authorities with rates of home ownership that were below the national average. The highest percentage of home owners was in South Ribble (79.3%), followed by Wyre (78.1%) and Ribble Valley (77.2%).  

Social and private renting accounted for the remaining tenures, with a very small percentage (around 1%) listed as living rent free. Preston (19.2%) and Blackburn with Darwen (18.1%) had the highest percentages of social rent tenures, whilst the lowest rates occurred in Wyre (7.2%), Fylde (7.5%) and Ribble Valley (7.6%). 

Overall in Lancashire-14, private lets (16.3%) accounted for a larger percentage than social renting (12.6%). The highest percentages of private rental tenures were in Blackpool (26.1%) and Burnley (19.4%), whereas the lowest percentage was in South Ribble (9.3%).
