School census
The school census is a statutory census that takes place during the autumn, spring and summer terms and collects information about individual pupils and about the schools themselves. The files in the data download box at the bottom of this page detail numbers on roll at each school within the Lancashire County Council area, including their age profile, year profile and type of school. The May 2024 census showed that Lancashire had 180,586 pupils at 627 schools. 104 schools were academies.
School census data is updated six weeks after the end of the census month (so October census is available second week of December, January census second week of March and May census, second week of July).
