Help finding work if you're disabled
If you have a disability and need help finding paid work, the Employment Support Service can help.
We can support you to find the right job to suit your experience and skills.
Once in work we'll keep in touch to see how you're getting on and support you to become independent at work.
We can help you:
- find training - to learn skills you might need for work or get a professional qualification
- write or update your CV
- look for a job or contact employers
- apply for jobs
- prepare for interviews
- get work trials - so you can try a particular job and get experience
- ask employers for training and reasonable adjustments
- support you through the early stages of employment
Eligibility
We support people who have:
- physical disabilities
- sensory impairments
- learning disabilities
- autism/ASD
- mental health issues
To be eligible for our service you must be:
- of working age (18 years or over)
- committed to gaining paid employment
- willing to meet regularly in local venues such as libraries or job centres
- flexible in terms of availability for employment
How to access the Employment Support Service
To access our service you must be referred by a Social Care Team.
Local Supported Employment (LSE)
We also work in partnership with the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) to deliver the Local Supported Employment (LSE) initiative.
To be eligible for this programme you must:
- have a learning disability, autism or both
- be known to adult social care
- be of working age (18 years or over)
But you cannot:
- already be in employment or full time education
- be on another employment programme delivered by a government department, charitable trust, or third party
