Dianne's story

Our foster carers come from all walks of life and areas of the county. They provide a range of skills to meet the varied needs of all children in our care.

We caught up with our foster carer Dianne at her home in Lancashire to hear about her fostering experiences.

Dianne and her partner Bev have fostered children from new born up to 17 years old and their only regret is that they didn't foster sooner.

Dianne talks us through what qualities you need to foster.

"I feel our role is we hold our hand out for these children and we allow them to sit in it a little bit safely and then eventually they grow." Dianne, foster carer.

Your local fostering community in Lancashire

We are a not-for-profit organisation with a wealth of experience and expertise in supporting families and communities. We are proud that our children’s services are rated 'good' by Ofsted. We have 5 foster carer areas that cover the whole of Lancashire. These are:

  • Central Lancashire
  • Lancaster, Wyre and North Fylde
  • Chorley and West Lancashire
  • Burnley and Pendle
  • Hyndburn, Rossendale, Ribble Valley

Why foster for Lancashire County Council?

  • We have a generous financial support package for our foster carers so you can focus on caring for our children. We provide additional welcome payments for foster carers who look after groups of brothers and sisters, we may pay an enhanced fee when you care for children with additional needs and for parent and child fostering.
  • You can make a difference to local children and keep them in their local area.
  • We always match our children to our own carers, and you will be caring for children from your local area. This means less disruption and better outcomes for our children. Through matching we know how well you will be able to meet the needs of the child.
  • Your social worker and the children’s social worker work for the same organisation. They follow the same policies to work in the best interests of the children.
  • We are committed to being trauma informed and have invested in our own inhouse therapeutic support team to help you in your foster carer role.
  • We welcome carers who are thinking about transferring from an independent fostering agency or other local authority. We will do our best to make this move as quick and easy as possible.
  • Our foster carers have lots of opportunities to get together. You will become part of the local fostering community, having lots of other foster carers living close to you.
