The Role of the Play Worker
Who is this course for?
Staff at the Out of school club who work directly with the children.
Course content
This is an excellent opportunity to upskill the whole team, without the difficulty of covering staff whilst they are off the premises. Come together as a team around your own computer and learn something new and fresh for further discussion and explore a topic more. Alternatively, the same session is available as a face-to-face training workshop.
In these three virtual recorded sessions you will discover or rediscover the ‘Playwork Principles’ and unpick what each of them mean for you and your setting. We will look at the role of a Playworker, dig a little deeper into what we mean by ‘play’, and how and why children play.
Together we will consider how you, as playworkers, can build those all-important relationships with children in a play-based environment. We will also explore ways in which you can evaluate your provision to plan and facilitate quality play sessions for the children in your club.
These sessions have been designed so you can work through them with your team in one place or individually, either is fine! As the sessions are pre-recorded you will be able to pause to complete the activities set (it’s important you do these so the section that comes after makes sense) and discuss topics.
You will have access to all three videos for a period of six weeks, with accompanying resources. You can organise when your team will watch them. Ideally all together at the same time or individually. Each pre-recorded session will take approximately an hour to work through.
