School readiness and supporting pre-school children for the transition to school

Settings with pre-school aged children.
This session is recommended for those settings undertaking the Lancashire Quality Award – Relationships with Children, Parents and the Wider Community.
Course content
OFSTED will assess how effectively the provider's curriculum prepares children for their subsequent educational stages and whether it enhances the skills necessary for their future learning. The quality of practitioner support for children's comprehensive personal development, as well as their behaviour and attitudes, will significantly influence children's confidence and resilience as they transition to school.
This training will:
- Examine current thinking on what it means to be 'school ready'
- Consider the important skills children need to start school
- Consider the important role of resilience in being ready for school
- Share examples of good practice
- Look at the process of transition and planning ahead for it
- Provide practical strategies for practitioners and parents to support children in being ready for school
- Suggest ways for partnership working
