School readiness and supporting pre-school children for the transition to school

Who is this course for?

Settings with pre-school aged children.

This session is recommended for those settings undertaking the Lancashire Quality Award – Relationships with Children, Parents and the Wider Community.

Course content

Ofsted will evaluate how well the provider's curriculum will prepare children for their next stage and whether that curriculum implementation builds children's skills for their future learning. How well practitioners support the development of children's all round personal development and their behaviour and attitudes will have an impact on the level of confidence and resilience children have to cope with starting school.  

This training will: 

  • Examine current thinking on what it means to be 'school ready' 
  • Consider the important skills children need to start school 
  • Consider the important role of resilience in being ready for school 
  • Share examples of good practice  
  • Look at the process of transition and planning ahead for it 
  • Provide practical strategies for practitioners and parents to support children in being ready for school 
  • Suggest ways for partnership working
